Day Twenty-Three: Holiday Licentiousness

I was a very good girl today. I did quite a bit of hiking while we were geocaching, and then I went to the gym with Caroline and worked off some of yesterday’s calories.

But that’s not going to stop me from having a second slice of pumpkin pie, in addition to the piece of coffee cake and the two brownies I’ve had today.

Don’t look at me like that (over your 4th slice of pecan pie)! It’s Thanksgiving weekend. You’re pigging out with the rest of us!

Taking Steps

Today I decided that I would take the stairs at all times in my building at work, except for when I’m heading to class and except for when I have a ton of stuff to carry to another floor.

There’s nothing like taking the stairs for six floors at 7:20 on Monday morning to show you just how out of shape you are.

I was breathless after I had climbed the stairs for two floors. I had to stop three times on the way up.

I will not be counting this as part of my daily exercise. I still have to walk or go to the gym at least 4 times a week. But, this should help get my body back in shape and can only be good for me.

I’m also ordered a pedometer. After reading tips about how to lose 20 pounds, I learned that if you take at least 10,000 steps a day, you will lose weight and keep it off. That means a lot more walking for me, but that’s ok. I know it’s good for me and I actually kinda like it.

I also taken steps to reduce the amount of junk food I eat. Although no one on earth would have known by watching what I ate this weekend, I’ve slowly been getting better at it. I don’t consume nearly as many harmful calories as I once was, so that’s good.

Hopefully, over the next 4-6 months, my habits will get to where they need to be. That will be nice.
