Last night we went to see American Gangster, the new Denzel Washington flick about Frank Lucas, an African-American drug lord in Harlem.
It wasn’t chock full of action, although there were some action scenes, and they took their time with the plot, but I’m glad they did, because you got details, and details are good in my opinion. It was one of the better low-action dramas I’ve seen in awhile. Convincing characters who were decently developed, intelligent scheming, etc.
The movie was good. Really good, in my opinion.
Let’s just say I didn’t realize that two hours and forty minutes had passed when the movie ended, and I never once felt like asking Dominic what time it was in order to ascertain how much longer I would have to sit there.
Go see the movie, tell me what you think.

Did you know that Tim Burton directed Batman and Batman Returns? Maybe that’s why they were so much better than all the ones that came out afterwards, (except maybe Batman Begins, which was pretty darn good.)
Did you know that Jerry Bruckheimer produced Flashdance way back in 1983? Did you know he is producing Confessions of a Shopaholic, which will be released in 2008?
Did you know that Steven Spielberg produced An American Tail? Did you know that he is producing Transformers 2 which is scheduled to be released in 2009?
Did you know that James Cameron wrote the screenplay for Rambo: First Blood Part II? Did you know that he is producing Fantastic Voyage which is scheduled for release in 2010?
I bet you knew that Wes Anderson produced Bottle Rocket, but I bet you didn’t know that he is producing a movie called The Fantastic Mr. Fox which is scheduled for release in 2009.
Did you know that George Lucas wrote American Graffiti? Did you know that he is the executive producer for Untitled Star Wars TV Series which will air in 2009?
God help us.

If you can stomach a little gory violence and a few shocks, go see The Kingdom.
I highly recommend it, for reasons other than it just being a good movie. See it, and you can figure those reasons out for yourself.

Dominic and I saw “3:10 to Yuma” last night.
Unfortunately, Russell Crowe starred in it, but we tried really hard to not let that ruin the movie for us.
I actually feel that in and of itself, the movie was pretty good, and Batman, I mean Christian Bale, was for the most part, convincing.
However, it was Ben Foster, who played the role of Charlie Prince, that, in my opinion, produced the best acting in the movie.
I hated his character. I loathed his character. I wanted his character to die several slow and miserable deaths. He oozed evil and heartlessness from every part of his being. Yet, he was strangely…cool.
Anyway, it was probably one of the few good movies that are out right now. If you like westerns at all, you should see it. You should also try not to be too annoyed with the fact that this guy tries to talk like John Wayne throughout the movie, and fails miserably.
