Day Seventeen: What a Weekend!

Posted by Rebecca Sun, 18 Nov 2007 05:28:00 GMT

Yesterday, a group of us headed out to Inks Lake Park for some camping/stargazing. Except there wasn’t much stargazing due to the massive bank of clouds that rolled in around 7:30 PM last night.

Right before that, Becky, Dominic and I were all able to see comet Holmes through a set of binoculars, and just as the cloud started to roll in , Becky and I both saw a beautiful meteor. But those were the only celestial sightings we were to see last evening.

Most of us stayed up until nearly 3, myself included. After a brief sleep I was up again at 8 this morning. After breakfast, we went hiking for a couple of hours and then packed up and left.

I drove Becky and me home, washed a load of clothes, took a shower and then a nap. Then I got up and got ready for Dominic to come get me. We went to see Nickel Creek (a band I’m not familiar with) at Stubb’s (a famous Austin venue to which I’ve never before been). It was fun. I like Nickel Creek’s music and will be adding some of it to my collection.

Stubb’s however, I’m not so sure about. It’s very uncomfortable, because you have to stand the whole time. There’s not really an area to sit and rest, either. My feet, back and shoulders are killing me from standing through the concert. I’ll think twice before seeing a band there again.

Tomorrow I get to do a little cleaning, another load of laundry, and a ton of reading.

Then it’s Monday again, sigh, but at least it’s a short week this time, which is good, because I need a break just to recover from this weekend.

Day Sixteen: I must be crazy

Posted by Rebecca Fri, 16 Nov 2007 15:40:00 GMT

I’m exhausted and yet I’m planning to stay up all night and try to catch the annual Leonid meteor shower between bits of cloud.

What am I thinking?

Day Twelve: Will I ever feel better?

Posted by Rebecca Mon, 12 Nov 2007 15:23:00 GMT

I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.

I’ve done what I can to take care of myself this semester…I’ve rested when I needed rest, relaxed and given myself permission to not be perfect, I’ve started exercising irregularly (which is better than before, when I wasn’t exercising at all) and I’ve worked hard to eat better, which overall has worked well save a few recent binges.

I’m on allergy medication to prevent myself from becoming needlessly sick, and my stomach is back to normal after a year of battling duodenitis and heartburn.

Yesterday though, my head and limbs started feeling heavy, I got a tiny sore throat and a pounding headache.

Lat night I was up until nearly 3 AM with a fever and I finally got up and set the A/C three degrees lower because the temperature in my apartment was ridiculous. My pillow and sheets were drenched with sweat and that kind of sleeping environment wasn’t pleasant to crawl back into.

I had to send another email message to my people at work and to my professor letting them know that yet again, I wouldn’t be in today. I’m out of sick days and have stated eating into my vacation time, which is depressing, but there it is.

This year has been plagued with fatigue and illness, and I’m very much ready for it to be over. Maybe next year will be better. I certainly hope so.

Day Eleven: Feeling Icky and lot of parentheses

Posted by Rebecca Sun, 11 Nov 2007 21:49:00 GMT

I can’t decide if I feel icky today because of allergies ( for those of you who don’t know, Austin is notorious for high pollen and mold counts, resulting in a populations where almost everyone has allergies), a cold that I’ve noticed has been going around that I might be getting (I hope not), or exhaustion from having cleaned out my closet yesterday.

My headache is coming back, the one I got rid of in church this morning while drinking contraband tea (we are not supposed to take food and drinks into the sanctuary but my head was pounding from the lack of caffeine, so I took a mug of tea in with me), and I can’t tell if I’m just thirsty, or if I inhaled too much dust while cleaning, or if I have a sore throat.

I now need to take a load of stuff down to my car so I can take it took goodwill and to my storage unit. However I don’t want to move.

I’d rather stay here and play Sid Meier’s Pirates (it’s an awesome PC game which I run on the windows side (which I only use for gaming) of my macbook) or watch some Jane Austen flick for the umpteenth time, or sleep.

I can’t believe tomorrow is already Monday. Is it me or are weekends shrinking in size? I can’t wait for the four-day weekend of Thanksgiving to get here. I need a break.

That being said, I think I’m going to load up my car before I fall asleep. I can always take my crap to the storage place later, but I”m sure my roommates would love it if I’d get my junk out of the living room. Then I can laze around and try to partake in some relaxation this weekend.
