Grrr. Brrr.

Yesterday it was hot here in the lovely city of Austin, Texas. I checked the weather for today and it was supposed to be hot again. So I wore jeans, a linen tank top, and sandals to work.

It is currently fifty-six degrees.

That is not hot.

Grrrr.

Not only is it not hot, but when you are wearing linen, fifty-six degrees is not even comfortable.

Brrrr.

Welcome to Austin, land of almost-eternal summer and bi-polar spring.

Typical

[ Posted by Rebecca Tue, 11 Dec 2007 15:55:33 GMT ]

I looked on weather.com just now to see what the temperature did here over the last few days. Here’s what I learned:

December 9, 11:00 AM: 76 degrees F

December 9, 11:00 PM: 37 degrees F

December 10, 11:00 AM: 40 degree F

December 10, 11:00 PM: 49 degrees F

December 11, 11:00 AM: Forecasted 82 degrees F

December 11, 11:00 PM: Forecasted 67 degrees F

If you think this is crazy, check out this text I copied from the Special Weather Statement for Austin, TX:

WARMER CONDITIONS WILL COME TODAY IN WAKE OF YESTERDAYS COLD WEATHER THAT FOLLOWED UNSEASONABLY WARM DAYS OVER THE WEEKEND.

COLDER TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED WEDNESDAY…IN WAKE OF A COLD FRONT… FORECAST TO MOVE ACROSS THE AREA WEDNESDAY MORNING. THE WARMEST PART OF THE DAY WILL LIKELY BE IN THE MORNING…AS TEMPERATURES ARE FORECAST TO FALL DURING THE DAY. A CHANCE OF RAIN AND SHOWERS WILL ONLY ADD TO THE COOLER CONDITIONS WEDNESDAY.

At least there’s one thing on this planet more fickle than my emotions.

Day Seven: Stress and Rhinestones

[ Posted by Rebecca Wed, 07 Nov 2007 14:01:58 GMT ]

I am entering that part of the year (which never occurs during the same season, but I can always feel it coming) when I feel like I’m at work all the time.

I work 40 hours per week. Clearly, I am not at work ALL the time.

I think though, with school being bland this semester and therefore being difficult to care about, I am working harder at school than I usually have to. I am working harder because I am working against myself, and that task always seems insurmountable.

Myself has been winning lately, but I think that’s a good thing, actually. I’ve been playing when I get home from work, instead of ramming my head between the pages of whatever book I’m reading at the moment, searching for meaning and method and metaphor. It’s been a little relaxing.

It’s nice to say “Screw it. I don’t give a crap about this complex character. I don’t care what horrific injustice they’ve suffered. They are not even real.” (Even though I know full well that they are inspired by real people and real events.)

But now, I’m in the precarious place of having a paper deadline on Friday and no topic to write about. Fan-frikkin-tastic. Here comes the stress, wheeee!

So yeah. That’s my life this week.

In other news, we are enjoying crisp weather down here in the Central Texas, otherwise known as Land of Eternal Scorching Summer. I am actually wearing a pullover sweater today. Now, if it would just be cold enough to wear boots.

Also, in other news, Dominic and I went on a date last night. We had dinner at Kerbey Lane, and while there, Dominic noticed a patron sitting at a table behind us who was clad entirely in pink. She had on a pink had and a pink skirt and somewhere there was some leopard print and something that looked like a feather boa. I’m not quite sure what was going on there, but it disturbed Dominic greatly.

“I bet she even has on pink underwear,” he said.

“With sparkles!” I replied.

“Rhinestones!” said Dominic.

“Nah, too uncomfortable on underwear.” I responded.

To which Dominic replied “Well then, at least on the bra, like thousands of shiny nipples.”
