America's Top Twenty Most Hated Foods

Below is a list of America’s Top Twenty Most Hated Foods. I commented on what I think of each one. Maybe Marci will post recipes for each one. That would be kinda cool.

Taken from here.

Liver - I will never eat liver. It’s a filter. It filters bad stuff out of your blood. I will never eat a filter.

Lima Beans - I don’t go out of my way to eat these, but I don’t avoid them either.

Mayonnaise - No way. Disgusting.

Mushrooms - Love them.

Eggs - scrambled (in butter) or boiled are fine.

Okra - This is my favorite vegetable. Especially fried. Pickled is good too. Stewed is not my favorite way to fix it but I’ll eat it.

Beets - I like beet juice. I’ve never tried beets themselves.

Brussel Sprouts - This might be the only vegetable I will not eat.

Tuna - Steak? Absolutely! Sushi? Definitely! From a can? Only if I absolutely have to.

Jello - I’ll eat it, but the concept of gelatin grosses me out.

Sour Cream - Not a big fan unless it’s blended into something, like dip.

Pea Soup - depends on what peas were used to make it. (see # 14)

Oysters - The first person who ever ate one of these had to be really hungry. This is one of the only foods I’ve never tried because of appearance and smell.

Peas - Depends on the pea. I like every pea I’ve ever had that is green. Not a fan of purple hull or black-eyed. My grandmother’s are the best.

Raisins - Nature’s candy

Cooked Carrots - Yum.

Onions - Fresh, fried, grilled, or any other way they come, I love ‘em!

Cilantro - Love it. Never knew what it was until I came to Texas and now I can’t eat salsa unless this is in it.

Maple Syrup - A little goes a long way, but I like it.

Blueberries - I love these, especially when I can pick them right off the blueberry bush. I don’t like blueberry flavored things, though. They are usually too sweet.

Which of these do you love or hate?

Caroline,

I'm glad I can always count on you to eat the sour cream off my plate. This is a good thing since we all love Tex-Mex so much. I think we'd figure out a way to work the raisin thing out. We've shared a shot of tequila. Nothing could more difficult to share than that.

Marci,

I look forward to your recipes. Make sure you take pictures! Also, I'm happy to try any of them, except the liver and oysters, of course.

I'll take your challenge, Rebecca! Although it might be difficult to feature each food rather than just have it present in a dish. But good practice in case they ever call me up for Iron Chef...

Seriously, who doesn't like blueberries? And cilantro and onions both make everything better. And I adore oysters. And actually like liver. And eggs... well, I eat breakfast for dinner about twice a week. And I actually like beets (especially pickled, but beet soup is fantastic) and brussel sprouts. I think I just like food.

Actually, the only food I've ever had (and I try everything at least once - if it's on the menu and I've never had it, you can bet I'll order it) that I don't like as is would be sour cream. But it's great as a base for sauces and dips.

I've grown to really love onions, and will always (and I mean ALWAYS) eat your sour cream when you don't want it. And raisins--we'd have to work out a way to share them, because I really love them. ;)
